John Richard Gray, 70 years old, of Orangevale, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 in Pueblo, Colorado surrounded by his family.

John was born January 2, 1947, in Stockton, California, the son of James F. Gray and Lois I. Messenger. He married the love of his life Karen L. Wilson on December 6, 1969. Karen and John bought their home in Orangevale in 1972 and raised their family there for the last 45 years.

John loved his family dearly. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He always made sure his family had everything they needed and wanted. He even collected pallets and cardboard to make money when he was out of work to ensure his family was always taken care of. He worked for Blue Diamond Almond Growers for 25 years. He worked at the California State Fair every summer at the "Dime Pitch" game, a game he helped create when he was a young boy. When he had vacation from work he would travel with the fair to different counties. He loved playing baseball with the church team and running the "snack shack." He ran the fireworks booth for Boy Scouts for many years. He was an avid volunteer that you could always count on. He always helped his children achieve every goal they set whether it be selling girl scout cookies, fundraiser for school, or doing their paper route for them, if they wanted to be the top seller he would make it happen. If you needed help with anything you could always count on him. He loved taking his family camping and on vacations. He loved taking his wife back to Iowa to visit her family. He loved making her happy. John was an amazing man and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Karen, his 3 children, Shannon Whitmore of Sacramento, Ca, Jason Gray of Cameron Park, Ca and Heather Meyer of Roseville, Ca, his 9 grandchildren Jordan, Brad, Mehgan, Cory, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Ryan, Mackenzie and Kevin and 2 great grandchildren Kennedy and Remington.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother James Gray and his sister Judy Martinez.

A memorial service will be held at Lambert Funeral Home on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10 am.
